Let the agent take a specific action through a working integration, with clear inputs and an honest failure response.

## Define the action first

Open Integrations in the agent builder. Connect a tool only when it is needed to complete the job.

01

### Purpose

For example: look up availability, write a confirmed row to a sheet, or retrieve an order through a custom API.

02

### Inputs

List the required details and have the agent collect and confirm them before invoking the action.

03

### Connection

Select the appropriate connected service or custom action and save it on the intended agent.

## Explain when to use it

Pair the connection with instructions in Assistant Details.

01

### Trigger

Specify when the action is appropriate, what permission is needed, and which values to send.

02

### Success

Only say an action succeeded when the tool’s returned result confirms it.

03

### Failure

For an error, missing result, or timeout, explain the limitation and offer the configured fallback.

## Verify the complete action

Test with controlled data before live traffic.

01

### Happy path

Compare the confirmed caller details with the tool arguments, returned result, and final spoken response.

02

### Failure path

Try missing details and an unavailable result. Check that the agent does not invent a booking or completed action.

03

### Review

Inspect the call’s tool record where available and confirm the result in the connected service.
